Once Hidden An Old Home is Revealed in Wilkinson County, Georgia

I became enamored with this house when it was posted on Cheap Old Houses. It once was shrouded entirely in overgrowth. Once the area was cleared, a large home was revealed to passersby. The outside hides a well-detailed house with beautiful woodwork. It’s a time capsule that supposedly no one has lived in since the 1960s. Photos of the inside can be seen on Saving Old Houses Instagram account. The house did sell.

The Mystery of the Vernon Johnson School-Wilkinson County, Georgia

This school is identified as the Vernon Johnson School on the Georgia Genealogy Trails, but I question if it is the school in the black-and-white photo below. The heights of the buildings are quite different. If it is the same building, when was the roofline dropped and how?

I’ve also seen the black-and-white image identified as the Clear Creek School, but I believe that was mislabeled.

Cool Springs Baptist Church-Wilkinson County, Georgia

I photographed this church in 2021, but it seems that it has collapsed based on Google Earth. The congregation was founded in 1878. I am uncertain when the church was built. While the church was in poor condition, I am surprised it collapsed so quickly. There are many churches who are still holding on by a string.

H. C. Melton General Merchandise-Allentown, Georgia

Several stores have called this location in Allentown, Georgia home. It was HC Melton who purchased and remodeled the store and had the iconic Coca-Cola sign painted.
