Bethel Presbyterian Church-Alcorn, Mississippi

Located in Alcorn, Mississippi, the congregation was started in 1826. The church was built in the 1840s. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

Coatopa Church-Sumter County, Alabama

Located on a dirt road near Livingston, Alabama is the Coatopa Church. Built in 1901, the church served the small community of Coatopa. It’s most famous resident was Kelly Mitchell, the gypsy queen. She died in Coatopa during childbirth but was buried in Mississippi.

When I first saw a photo of the church, I knew I needed to document it one day. If you visit, just do it post mosquito season.

Crescent Hill Baptist Church-White County, Georgia

Built in 1870 and completed by 1882, the Crescent Hill Baptist Church was originally the Nacoochee Presbyterian Church built by Captain James H. Nichols, who relocated to the area from Milledgeville. In 1902, the Presbyterian Church moved its services to the Nacoochee Institute. In 1921, a group of Baptists took over the church and renamed the building Crescent Hill Baptist Church.

Old Stone Church-Glenn Springs, South Carolina

Completed in 1908, the Old Stone Church, also known as the Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church, served the Glenn Springs community until a newer church was built in 1961. The church fell into disrepair, and in 2007, a ten-year restoration project was started. It’s now available for private events.
