Ephesus Primitive Baptist Church of Monroe County, Georgia

Ephesus Primitive Baptist Church is located in Monroe County near Juliette, Georgia. Founded in 1859, the church was a member of the Ocmulgee Association. The church is typical of the early 1900s churches that dot the landscape in Georgia, but an official build date is not known. I suspect it was built in 1912 due to an article in The Monroe Advertiser. According to Williams (1912), “A new church is being built on the site of the old Ephesus church which before being torn down had been standing as long as probably any church in the county, and it is probable that the new building will be completed in time for the meeting this week to be held in it.”
