Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church sits next to a large park and new homes in the revitalized downtown area of Acworth, Georgia. Founded in September 1864, the church was founded within a few months of Acworth being captured by the Union troops but before the end of the Civil War in 1865, making it an early freedmen’s church.

The current church building was built in 1914.
