Bivings-Converse House of Glendale, South Carolina

Built in the mid-1830s, the Bivings-Converse House is located in Glendale, South Carolina. The Greek Revival home is near the Pacolet River. Dr. James Bivings was the first homeowner. In addition to being a medical doctor, he founded the Bivingsville Cotton Factory in the area. He then sold it to Dexter Edgar Converse in 1859. Converse, who had worked at the factory as a superintendent, became a co-owner of the mill when it failed financially.

The home was expanded in the 1890s. Unfortunately, it has sat empty for several decades now, a victim of demolition by neglect. An article from 2018 suggests a desire to restore the home, but I am uncertain if any work has begun.
